Cheap Wedding Favors

By Yours Truly

Weddings are a time of cheer, joy, romance, hope... and oh yes, before we forget, hefty expenses. Just about everything that a bride to be sets her hearts on for her big day will come with a high price tag. If you're on a limited budget, scrimping on your dress or the food might not seem very appealing. In a situation like this, it makes more sense to scout around for inexpensive wedding favors.

Fortunately, cheap wedding favors don't have to mean unattractive gifts that don't appeal. With a little imagination and some serious hunting, you can find favors that will make an impression without making a dent in your wallet.

Here are 10 great picks for cheap wedding favor ideas:

1. Pick out little mini baskets from thrift stores. Fill these with candy, and insert a little silk flower or mini trinket for a touch of glam. Wrap with a tulle bow.

2. Stainless steel mint tins in circular or heart shapes can also be used to contain candies and nuts. For an extra special touch, write a trivia question related to you or the groom and paste them on the outside of each fold up box. Put in a slip of paper with the answer inside and watch as guests join in the excitement of your own personal wedding trivia!

3. Choose from a variety of little bags on line - beach bags, silver, white, and blue mesh bags and fill these with Jordan almonds. Or try personalized candy; many companies offer these at affordable pieces. Remember to tag each bag with a printed tag that has your names, the date and a "Thank You" lettered out in a beautiful font.

4. Candles are eternal in their appeal, and are available in enough price ranges to ensure that you find frosted or votive candles that are within your budget.

5. Key chain wedding favors may seem a little done to death, but can be personalized with your names to create a cheap wedding favor that's affordable and pretty. If you're having a themed wedding, choose key chains that blend with the mood. For instance flip flop key chains set the mood for a summer or beach wedding.

6. Give a gift that will keep growing. A little potted plant is inexpensive and can easily be brought in bulk at a nursery near you. Don't forget to include the name of the plant and instructions for its care.

7. Seed packet wedding favors are always popular, symbolizing as they do new beginnings and fresh starts. You can easily make these by purchasing mini pails in bulk, and filling each with a little paper seed sachet or pieces of fabric that can be used to hold the seeds.

8. Cookies are easy to bake and cheap to order if you get a bulk of them made. Personalize them, and decorate with candy or sprinkles for a truly delicious wedding favor.

9. Simple chocolate hearts or squares can be packaged in a square of gold gauze and tied with a ribbon. Remember, the most inexpensive favors always look pricey when packaged right. Appearance is everything.

10. Finally, go online and hunt for affordable wedding favors that are simple, yet pretty. With a variety to choose from you'll have no problem finding something that speaks to you, without burning a hole in your pocket.

Wow! Lots of choices! You can now make your own wedding favors. Pick wedding favors that is close to you or describes you and your loved one, it would definitely make your wedding more meaningful.

9 Cheap Wedding Favor Ideas to DIY For Your Wedding

by Angela Tay

There are many types of wedding favors you can easily purchase for your guests. But some couples prefer preparing for their own wedding favors for a more personalised touch as it also signifies gratitude to their guests for attending one of the biggest events of their life.

I have compiled some DIY wedding favor ideas you can use if you are on a tight budget!

1) Bake cookies and personalise your message on your cookie. You can even make it a fortune cookie (with words of wisdom or a set of numbers for the lottery fanatic)

2) Buy sweets or candy in bigger lots and repackage them into smaller sachets or boxes. You can customise your box with your own message by using sticker labels.

3) Get bags of potpourri and make smaller scented bags out of them. You can get ready made sachets or buy nice fabric to make your own. Tie the sachets up with lovely ribbons or lace.

4) Make creative coasters by cutting fancy shapes out of corkboard or buying die-cut ones and customising them with your own message stickers.

5) For an oriental twist, you can buy wholesale lots of wooden chopsticks (real ones, not disposable ones!) and repackage them nicely in pairs. These are quite practical and it symbolises well for the wedding as chopsticks always comes in pairs, just like every couple!

6) For summer weddings, hand-held fans are a pretty favor to give. You can personalise them with your own message and the guests can take them home after the event.

7) Gardening lovers will like the idea of receiving little sachets of seeds that they can try growing. I think my mum will be one of them. Haha.

8) If you have a Polaroid camera, you can take instant pictures with your guests on the actual day, punch a hole immediately and tie a ribbon on top to make a really unique bookmark!

9) Personalised fridge magnets are also a practical favor idea. You can print them yourself or get a professional printer to do it for you. You can choose lovely scenic pictures or cute pet images or even your own wedding portrait and put your own message on it.

These DIY wedding favor ideas could probably save you a bit of money. But if you are a really lazy bride, or you absolutely have no time to DIY your own wedding favour, its best to leave it to the professionals. A wedding favor does not need to be really expensive, it's most often the thought that counts. In my opinion, the best favor is something that will leave your guests sweet memories of the wedding and is practical enough to be used even after the wedding itself.

What do you think?

Cheap Homemade Wedding Favor Ideas

By Holly White

Table setting

The average wedding costs a total of $20,000 from start to finish. While this day is certainly special, there are ways to reduce the expenses and alleviate the financial burden. One of the options is to make homemade wedding favors instead of purchasing pre-made favors.

Candy, Cookies or Chocolates

Candy, cookies and chocolates are wedding favor classics. Candies such as "M&Ms", or "Hershey's Kisses" can be purchased in bulk at most wholesale stores. For cookies and chocolates, consider using a special family recipe and explaining the significance of this favor on the packaging.

Popcorn Balls

Both thrifty and creative, popcorn balls offer a delicious snack for guests. Recipes for popcorn balls can be found at websites such as Better Homes and Gardens, and can be customized to fit the occasion. Consider using food coloring to match the balls to the wedding colors, or press the hot popcorn mixture into mini cake molds to form shapes such as hearts, flowers or butterflies.

Birdseed gifts

Birdseed feeders are a useful and creative present. For these charms, mix 1 cup of birdseed with two frothy-beaten egg whites and press the mixture into oven-safe molds. Use a pen to poke a hole in the tops for a ribbon, and bake at 250 for an hour. Let them cool, then thread ribbon and a custom card-stock monogram through each of the holes.

Chocolate-Dipped Spoons

Give a gift that guests can enjoy the next morning with their coffee. Chocolate-dipped spoons can be made with little effort or cost. Disposable spoons can be purchased in any color, including silver and gold. Once the spoon is dipped in melted chocolate, food coloring, sprinkles, nuts or spices can be added to personalize the appearance and flavor.

Handmade soap favors

Scented soaps can be both functional and decorative for the guests. Wrap the soap in paper decorated with the couple's monogram and a note about the scent. Finish off with a bow of raffia, twine, lace or ribbon.

Seeded Place Cards

For the environmentally conscious couple, send guests away with a gift that will last a lifetime. Construct the overall design of the place cards, and choose a distinct shape that will be glued onto each card. Using either recycled or rice paper, cut out the desired shapes for each card. Purchase a sufficient amount of flower seeds to place a small amount on each shape. For example, if using wild flower seeds, only five to eight are necessary. Utilizing a washable, clear-drying glue, lightly cover the shape cutouts and sprinkle the seeds on top. Let dry overnight, and then glue onto the place cards. Give planting instructions on the back of the cards.

Packaging

Packaging for your favors can also be affordable. Simple white boxes can be ordered online; then customize them with craft items such as ribbons or beads. Tulle, cellophane or tissue paper can be used to wrap favors.
Finally, top off these delightful packages with customized monogram cards, designed and printed from home. Card stock or scrapbook paper can add a professional touch that will have guests wondering where the favors were purchased.

Wedding favors takes a lot of budget in a wedding, but you can cut your budget by doing personalized wedding favors. Just go to wedding shops and compare their prices then go for the cheaper wedding favors and choose the favors you want. Just be creative and imaginative!
